So this year, I am adding the Amazon Echo Dot to the classroom. This will be a great way for my students to take ownership over their learning. The Echo Dot will be used within our classroom and stations.
Technology expectations are written in the Texas Pre-K guidelines for young children. As a TEXAS educator, it is imperative to include technology lessons within our currciulum.
Here are just a few ideas on how we will be using this technology device to enhance our learning:
Ideas/Commands for use in a variety of content areas: MATH:
count to 10, 20, etc... count by 5's
set a timer (this will be great for fluency word work)
what is ____+_____?
how far is ____ (city) from ____ (city)?
roll the dice
tell me a story (most of the stories are fairytales, folktales- all kid friendly)
Simon Says (students must be able to read fluently for Alexa to understand the commands)
As part of the STEM club, we receive monthly shipments of STEM toys and activities that foster child development and problem solving skills. For this month, we received the Fisher-price Think & Learn Code-a-pillar.
This is a pretty exciting toy! Preschoolers connect the segments to make the code-a-pillar move left, right and forward. What I love about this toy, is that each segment lights up as it performs the operation in sequence. This is a great toy to enhance those critical thinking skills for young learners and it introduces the idea of coding (code is a set of instructions computers can understand).
Calling all parents and teachers! Amazon has a great deal right now on elmer's all purpose glue sticks! You're looking at $0.26 per glue stick in this pre-pack of 30 for $7.88! You can't beat that price!
As an early childhood educator I can NOT tell you how many glue sticks we go through in a week. We do a lot of crafts and literacy work that involves gluing... so this teacher has placed her order already!
As an early childhood teacher, it's important to expose young children to hands-on activities that are engaging and stimulating. My students don't realize they are learning because they are having so much fun building and constructing!
The Amazon STEM club is a monthly subscription and the items that are delivered to your doorstep are hand picked by an Amazon Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Expert. These STEM toys will encouarge your child to learn through play. The cost is quite affordable and you may cancel your subscription at anytime.
I highly recommend this STEM monthly subscription from Amazon. Every item we have received so far has been developmentally age appropriate and just so much fun to explore!
